MARLING is a pendant made of two rings hung one below the other on fine cables: the larger 60 cm across, the smaller 40 cm. Both are finished in mirror black chrome, with a light band along the inner edge. The whole assembly hangs beneath a round, likewise mirrored ceiling rose.
"Soft lift" — the height changes by hand, without a ladder
This is the feature that separates the fitting from dozens of similar ring pendants. The manufacturer specifies height adjustment across 50–150 cm using a "soft lift" system: the rings are raised and lowered by hand, even one-handed, and the mechanism holds them where they are put. They can also be set at an angle.
The practical consequence is larger than it sounds. On an ordinary cable-hung lamp the height is fixed once, at installation — changing it means a ladder and shortening cables. Here the lamp comes down low over the table for dinner and goes back up to the ceiling when the table is moved or people need to pass. It also makes dusting the rings straightforward, which with mirror chrome three metres up is a task in itself.
Three brightness levels from an ordinary switch
The fitting has three-step brightness control operated from the wall switch — successive presses step through the levels. No dimmer, no remote and no change to the wiring.
At 8200 lm that is close to essential. Full output is the level for lighting a whole large living room — roughly ten classic 60 W bulbs. For dinner at the table you step down to the lowest setting, where the rings still draw two glowing hoops but the light does not glare.
An illuminated mounting box
The manufacturer lists decorative backlighting of the mounting box separately: it is not only the two rings that glow but also a hoop around the rose at the ceiling. The effect shows especially in the evening — the ceiling above the lamp does not go dark, and the whole thing reads as three concentric circles of light rather than two hanging in a void.
How much light, and what colour
72 W give 8200 lm at 3000 K (warm white). Efficacy works out at about 114 lm/W, corresponding to energy class E — a good result for a decorative fitting with a diffusing cover.
Warm white at 3000 K is a deliberate choice here: mirror black chrome turns bluish and technical under cooler light, while at 3000 K it keeps its depth and reflects a warm tone. The colour cannot be changed — the LED modules are permanently built in and not replaceable, so when the diodes are spent the whole fitting is replaced.
Dimensions and planning
- Rings: Ø 60 cm (upper) and Ø 40 cm (lower)
- Installed height 50–150 cm, adjustable after fitting
- Two light points, 72 W / 8200 lm / 3000 K
An outer diameter of 60 cm suits a table 90–140 cm wide, or a kitchen island. Over a dining table the usual figure is 70–90 cm from the top to the lower edge — with 50–150 cm of adjustment you can stay inside that range on ceilings from 2.4 to 3.3 m, which makes this one of the few fittings that works in both a flat and a tall room.
Build and catalogue data
The structure is metal in a black chrome finish with plastic elements (the light covers). The mirrored surface is striking but shows fingerprints and dust — worth wearing gloves for the installation and using a soft cloth to clean.
