"Gimble" means it moves

NUMINOS GIMBLE XS is the version with a movable ring: the lampholder rotates and tilts inside the housing, so once it is in the ceiling the beam is aimed at a picture, a shelf or a wall rather than straight down. That sets this model apart from a fixed downlight and defines what it is for — GIMBLE is an accent fitting, not a way to light a room evenly.

Light: 670 lm, a 40° beam, CRI 90

The LED module draws 7 W and delivers 670 lm at a warm 3000 K. A 40° beam is the compromise between a tight spot and a wide downlight: from 2.5 m it lights a pool roughly 1.8 m across — concentrated enough to lift a picture off the wall, wide enough not to cut it with a hard edge. CRI 90 matters here: colour rendering clearly above the usual CRI 80, and on textiles, wood, artwork or leather the difference is visible to the naked eye. A glare index of UGR ≤ 22 confirms the source sits deep in the housing and does not dazzle at normal viewing angles.

Supply: a 200 mA fitting in protection class III

The most important point when ordering: this fitting runs on 200 mA constant current and is protection class III, i.e. supplied at extra-low voltage. The driver is not included — it has to be chosen separately from SLV's range: 1005609 (200 mA, 10 W, phase dimming), 1005610 (200 mA, 10 W), 1005611 (200 mA, 13.5 W, DALI dimmable) or the bridge driver 1006457 (12 W, 200 mA) working with the Casambi (1006454) and Zigbee (1006199) RF modules. That choice decides whether and how the fitting dims.

Cut-out and depth

Installation needs a round cut-out 6.8 cm in diameter and a mounting depth of 8 cm. The second figure is the one people forget and the one that decides: in a suspended ceiling with a shallow void, or in plasterboard with limited clearance, 8 cm is a condition to check before buying — all the more so because the driver has to fit somewhere nearby too. The fitting itself is 5.7 cm deep and 8 cm across. For oversized openings left by older fittings SLV offers 160/70 mm reduction rings (1006135/1006136 round, 1006137/1006138 angled).

Materials, life, optical accessories

The body is aluminium in black with a polycarbonate lens; rated life is 50,000 hours and the glass temperature at the light-emitting surface stays at 82 °C. Photobiological risk group 1 means a source that is safe in normal use. The character of the light can be changed with NUMINOS XS diffusers bought separately: frosted (1005614), clear (1005613) and black (1005615). The manufacturer gives a 5-year warranty.
