Two apertures in one oval bezel

The SHARM R II is a recessed fitting with two round apertures set in a single oval bezel 23 cm long. The black face holds, in each aperture, a copper-coloured ring and a black ribbed reflector with the LED module seated deep inside. The combination has a job to do: the dark, fluted collar swallows side light, while the copper rim puts a warm reflection along the edge instead of a cold chrome flash. The "R" version is round — the manufacturer sells the square counterpart separately as the SHARM SQ.

A 24° beam — this is an accent fitting

Two 10 W modules give 1800 lm in total at a warm 3000 K, but the figure that decides everything is the 24° beam. A cone that narrow is not there to light a room — it is there to point. From a ceiling at 2.7 m it draws a pool roughly a metre across on the floor, with a distinct edge. The SHARM R II is therefore a fitting for emphasis: a picture, a brick wall, a kitchen island, a reception desk. As the only light in a room it will leave the corners dark.

Fixed, not adjustable

An important distinction: the heads of the SHARM R II are fixed and throw straight down. If the beam is meant to strike a wall at an angle, that has to be decided when the ceiling holes are set out — the fitting will not let you correct it afterwards. In practice it means placing the fitting at the distance the lit object requires, rather than simply "somewhere above it".

Installation and cut-out

The bezel stands only 1.5 cm proud of the ceiling, so once installed it barely projects. Above the ceiling, though, it needs 9 cm of recess depth — a real constraint in shallow plasterboard grids and in insulated ceilings. The cut-outs are 2 × Ø 7.5 cm. The driver is built in and the fitting runs directly on 230 V, so no space needs to be found above the ceiling for a separate transformer.

Life and energy class

The manufacturer states 30,000 hours of module life, which at typical accent use (3–4 hours a day) works out at over 20 years. The LED is integrated — it is not replaced, so the life of the module is the life of the fitting. Energy efficiency class: G; on a narrow-beam accent fitting that follows from the optics rather than from poor diodes.
