ANTIGUA is a hand-built pendant from the Polish atelier Las Plumas, where a plain cylindrical shade is turned into something much closer to stage decor. The drum is wrapped in deep red velvet, edged with dark green cord, a row of tassels and long silky fringe, and a gold parrot with outstretched wings hangs from a slim gold hoop beneath it.
Handmade, down to the trimmings
Every piece is assembled by hand. The outer skin is deep red velvet; the passementerie is dark green throughout, from the braided cord and tassels to the 14 cm fringe. Inside, the shade is finished with a glossy gold coating, and the frame is lacquered black.
The light it gives
That gold lining is the point of the design. After dark the shade reflects a warm amber wash downwards instead of flat white glare, and the light filters through the fringe as it goes. ANTIGUA therefore works as decorative, atmospheric lighting over a dining table, in the seating area of a living room or beside a bed, alongside separate general lighting rather than in place of it.
Fitting and bulb
The lamp arrives complete with an E27 lampholder, a 150 cm cable and a 10 x 3 cm metal ceiling cup, so the drop is set during installation to suit your ceiling height. It runs on 230 V and takes any E27 bulb. No bulb is supplied, which leaves colour temperature and output to you.
