VALISE Picture in the Large size is an 80 cm bar clad in black leather — the maker calls the finish Tuxedo, and the name fits: a deep matt black like a dinner-jacket lapel. At both ends and on the wall plate the bar is bound in vintage-toned brass, muted and lightly aged rather than yellow and shiny. The whole thing is carried on two arms with ball joints, which gives the fitting a craftsman's character rather than a technical one.

How it lights — and why 2575 K in particular

The light leaves through a narrow slot of frosted acrylic along the bottom edge and falls downward onto the canvas. 1066 lumens at 30 W is a lot for a picture light and covers large formats. Two other figures matter more, though:

• 2575 K — lower than the usual 2700 K, close to incandescent and candlelight. For painting that is a deliberate choice: a warm white point revives ochres, reds and varnish instead of cooling them the way neutral white does.
• CRI 90 — high colour fidelity. On artwork this is not a marketing figure but the condition for the colours on the canvas to read as the painter intended.

The fitting stands 24.8 cm off the wall. That is far more than an ordinary wall light, and entirely deliberate: the bar has to reach in front of the picture plane to light it evenly from above rather than just grazing the top of the frame. It is worth measuring that distance on the wall, especially in a narrow hallway or beside a doorway. The fitting is 19.7 cm tall and weighs 4.8 kg — substantial, so choose fixings to suit the wall.

Integrated source and dimming

The LED module is permanently built in; there are no lamps to buy and none to change. Declared life is 50,000 hours, roughly 45 years at three hours a day. The fitting is dimmable — genuinely useful on a picture light, since the level can be matched to the brightness of the work itself and to the light in the room. Supply 220–240 V, 50 Hz, built to Class I (an earth connection is required), for interior use.
