BADOW is a pendant whose shade is cast in concrete. It is a material that appears rarely in lighting and changes the character of a lamp in a way metal cannot: the surface is matt, cool to the touch and finely porous, and every casting carries a slightly different grain — no two pieces are identical.

Proportion and suspension

The shade is 19.5 cm wide and 30 cm tall — slender and elongated rather than domed. The whole hangs up to 150 cm below the ceiling; the cord is shortened during installation. Over a kitchen worktop or a dining table the bottom edge should sit 70–80 cm above the surface. At 1 kg the lamp needs no reinforced fixing, but concrete is brittle under impact — hang it where nobody will knock it.

Light directed downward

Concrete passes no light, so the entire output leaves through the opening at the bottom of the shade. The result is a clearly bounded circle of light beneath the lamp and a darker surround — this is task or zone lighting, for work or for marking a place at the table, not for brightening a whole room. Several in a row over a kitchen island give rhythm and cover the full worktop.

The power limit: 5 W maximum

The socket is E14, but the manufacturer sets the maximum lamp power at 5 W — and that is the detail that matters most before buying. A classic 40 W incandescent candle bulb is out of the question; only LED sources fit here, and at 5 W they typically give 400–500 lumens. The limit follows from the closed, unventilated mass of the concrete shade, where heat has no way out.

Dimming and finish

The lamp has no dimming circuit of its own, but it will work with a dimmer if you fit a dimmable LED bulb — the choice of source decides whether the control works at all. The grey of the concrete is neutral and pairs well with timber, black and raw finishes; in industrial and modernist rooms it reads as a material accent rather than a decorative object.
