BARRAS is a 55 cm tall desk lamp: a black, elongated beak-shaped shade sits on a curved arm that runs down into a tripod of three tubes knotted together and finished with ball feet. The tubes have a warm gold-toned finish and the inside of the shade is light. The body is made of aluminium.
How much desk space it takes
The lamp stands 55 cm high and the three feet span 25 cm — that is the footprint it occupies on the desktop. Compare those 25 cm with the depth of your own desk: the tripod stands free and cannot be pushed flat against a wall the way a round base can.
The shade sits on the curved arm and points down towards the desktop. At 55 cm the light reaches the work surface from above rather than straight into the eyes of the person sitting at the desk.
Which bulb you need to buy
The fitting has one light point with an E27 socket and runs on 230 V. No bulb is included, so it is bought separately. The manufacturer caps the bulb at 12 W, which with this socket means an LED bulb — a traditional source of that wattage will not give usable working light.
You therefore choose the light colour together with the bulb: 2700 K is warm, slightly yellow light, 4000 K is neutral and closer to daylight. The lamp can be dimmed, but that needs a bulb marked as dimmable and a dimmer — the fitting itself carries no electronics.
Form and where it is meant to stand
The knotted tubular tripod and the narrow, diagonally cut shade make a modernist shape with no ornament, built entirely on the line of the bent tube. The black shade together with the gold-toned frame stands out against a light desktop.
This is a lamp for working at a desk and for reading — in an office or a home study, where the light should fall on one particular surface rather than fill the whole room.
