The Candle Pin is a candle holder carved from a single piece of pale teak wood. The block is irregular – it keeps the natural outline of the trunk, with visible grain and a smoothly sanded surface – and a black metal plate with a spike is set into its top.
A spike instead of a socket
That is the difference from a conventional holder. There is no socket of fixed diameter, but a spike the candle presses onto – which means any pillar candle fits, whatever its thickness: a slim stub, a fat cylinder, an irregularly shaped beeswax candle. The metal plate beneath the spike catches running wax and protects the wood.
Every piece different
The holders are carved by hand, so no two are alike: outline, grain pattern and wood tone all vary. Teak has a naturally warm, pale colour and a pronounced structure that darkens slightly over time. That irregularity is the point here – if you want an object reproducible to the millimetre, this is not it.
Where to put it
At roughly 10 × 10 cm and 8 cm tall the holder is low enough not to block conversation across a table, and heavy enough (0.4 kg of solid wood) not to topple when knocked. It works in the middle of a dining table, on a chest of drawers, on a windowsill and beside a bed. The contrast of warm wood against black metal suits natural and boho interiors as readily as minimalist ones.
