The Rattan Rise Tray is a round tray of hand-woven rattan in natural brown, set on a low stand. The base is woven in a spiral from the centre and is surrounded by a raised rim with two cut-out handles. The stand is made of bent rattan poles joined by a ring at the bottom.
Size and footprint
The tray measures 50 cm in diameter and stands 22 cm high including the stand. Compare the diameter with the top of the coffee table or console it will sit on — it takes up a circle half a metre across. The stand lifts the tray above the surface, so whatever you place on it sits higher than on a flat tray. It weighs 1.35 kg in total, so it is easy to carry by the handles in the rim.

The maker intends it for carrying and holding glassware, books or decorative pieces. The raised rim keeps items in place while you carry it, and when it is set down it becomes a raised shelf on the table where small things can be gathered in one place.
Material and making
The tray is made in Indonesia and woven by hand. As a result, the weave and the shade of the rattan vary slightly from piece to piece, and each tray will look a little different from the photos. Rattan is light, and the spiral weave of the base and the densely woven rim show a clear natural texture up close.
