Cleveland CL2-M is an Elstead outdoor wall lantern in a traditional form: a cast aluminium body in a weathered bronze finish, filled with clear seeded glass. It stands 54.3 cm tall and takes one E27 source up to 60 W.

Cast aluminium and an anti-corrosion guarantee

Elstead backs this lantern with a three-year anti-corrosion guarantee — and that is exactly the guarantee that matters on an outdoor fitting. Cast aluminium does not rust the way steel does, and the Weathered Bronze finish is a deliberately uneven, rubbed patina on which small marks of use do not show — unlike smooth black lacquer, where every chip is visible at once.

Seeded glass changes the character of the light

The panes are not plain clear glass: this is glass with air bubbles trapped inside (clear seeded glass). Each bubble refracts the light at a different angle, so the filament does not form one hard point but a scattered, shimmering glow — close to the effect of old gas lanterns. In practice that means a decorative filament bulb is worth choosing: through this glass it looks far better than an opal globe.

E27 up to 60 W — the lamp is bought separately

The holder is a standard E27 with a 60 W ceiling, and no bulb is included. The lantern is compatible with dimmable sources, so with a dimmer in the circuit it can be taken down to an atmospheric minimum. Light colour is entirely your choice — 2200–2700 K brings out the amber tone of the bronze and the glass, while cooler light turns the lantern into a technical fitting, at odds with its shape.

IP44 and a 30 cm projection — what to check before installing

IP44 means resistance to splashing water from any direction: rain and snow are no problem, but this is not a fitting for a direct hose jet. More important when planning is the 30.2 cm projection — the lantern stands a full hand-and-wrist off the wall, so in a narrow passage or right beside a door that has to be counted. Protection class I requires an earth conductor.

Mounting on a corner

Elstead offers a separate corner bracket for this lantern in two colours: C-BKT2-BROWN and C-BKT2-BLACK. It solves the problem every flat-backed lantern runs into — a building corner cannot take one without an adapter. The fitting itself weighs 2.46 kg, so the fixing has to reach masonry rather than the insulation layer alone.
