DIAL 45 is a pendant light with a wide conical metal shade 45 cm across. A smaller inverted cone sits above the shade, and an open gap runs between the two. The whole fitting is a single grey, colour code NCS S4500N; the design comes from the Danish studio Says Who.
How big it is and how to hang it
A shade 45 cm across and 17.5 cm deep keeps its proportions over a table roughly 90–100 cm wide. The drop is usually shortened so the bottom edge of the shade sits 70–80 cm above the top — the 200 cm cable leaves room for that even under a high ceiling.
The canopy is 12 cm across and covers a standard installation box; the fitting weighs 1.33 kg. Nordlux states protection class II, so no earth conductor is needed. The manufacturer also notes that the fittings are not connected in parallel: in a row of several over a table, each one needs its own supply.
How much light it gives and which bulb it needs
The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 40 W, and no bulb is included — you choose the colour and brightness yourself. Over a table most people pick 2700–3000 K, warm light with a slightly yellow cast.
The metal shade throws the light down onto the table, but the gap between the two cones lets part of it out upwards and brightens the ceiling above the lamp — this is the effect Nordlux calls a decorative uplight. The light can be dimmed provided you buy a bulb marked as dimmable and wire in a dimmer.
Build and rooms
Shade and canopy are metal and the cable has a grey plastic sheath. Nordlux states that the cable cannot be replaced, which is worth knowing when planning work: a damaged cable means replacing the whole fitting rather than just the lead.
The form is Nordic and modern — the DIAL family draws on lighting from the fifties, hence the clean cone without ornament. In the catalogue the fitting is listed for the living room, bedroom and dining room, and for hotel and restaurant interiors. It is intended for indoor use.
