HORSA has the shape of an hourglass: two cones narrowing to a slim waist halfway up. The form is turned from solid mango wood and finished in matt black, through which the grain still reads. Diameter 35 cm, height 60 cm, weight 10 kg.
Mango wood
Mango is orchard timber — the trees are felled once fruit yield drops after a dozen or so years, so the material is a by-product of cultivation rather than forest harvesting. It is hard and dense, with a pronounced, irregular grain. The black finish does not bury it: in raking light the texture of the wood stays visible.
A handmade object
The table is made by hand from a natural material, so the manufacturer states plainly that an individual piece may differ in appearance from the photographs — in shade, in the run of the grain, in small irregularities of the surface. That is not a defect but a consequence of how this piece is produced.
Where it goes
Sixty centimetres is close to armrest height and taller than a typical coffee table — HORSA is meant to stand beside an armchair, a sofa or a bed, within reach of someone seated. A 35 cm top holds a lamp, a mug and a book. Ten kilograms in so compact a form means the table stands firmly and does not get nudged out of place.
