Three shades on one canopy

Fener is a pendant in which three opal shades are set out on a shared frame 52 cm across. The assembly is 28 cm tall, so the proportion is decidedly horizontal — this is a fitting that spreads light sideways, not a column hanging down. It is made of metal alloy finished in antique brass: warmer and more matt than polished brass, with a deliberately subdued shine.

Pairing that warm metal with the milky opal of the shades is the point of the design. The shades diffuse light softly and never show a filament, so the fitting can hang low over a table without glare — which with three E27 lamps is not a given.

Three E27 sockets, no lamps included

The fitting has three E27 sockets and ships without bulbs. The manufacturer quotes a maximum power of 40 W. Free choice of lamp is an advantage: colour temperature, output and colour rendering can be matched to the room — warm 2700 K over a dining table, neutral 4000 K in a kitchen or study.

The fitting supports dimming, but only with a suitable lamp: it contains no control gear of its own, so you need lamps marked as dimmable and a dimmer matched to their technology. An ordinary non-dimmable LED bulb in such a circuit will flicker or fail to strike at low levels.

Where it works

The manufacturer lists living room, bedroom, study, dining room, hall and kitchen. A 52 cm diameter suits a round table of 90–120 cm or a kitchen island, where three shades spread across the width give an even pool of light instead of one strong point. In a hall or over stairs, remember the 28 cm height and add the drop length.
