NORLYS Grimstad 1544AL is an LED luminaire for recessing into a wall, with a rectangular frame of powder-coated die-cast aluminium in aluminium colour (RAL 9006) and opal safety glass. The front measures 26.5 × 12 cm and is the only part visible on the wall. The LED module and driver are built in and included — there is no light source to buy.

Installing it in the wall

The body reaches 12 cm into the wall. In solid masonry it sits in an opening of 258 × 112 × 115 mm, and in a layered wall in an opening of 235 × 96 × 82 mm; these dimensions need planning at the building or insulation stage. The luminaire weighs 1.41 kg.

The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm² and allow loop-through wiring (up to 3 × 1.5 mm²) to the next luminaire, so a whole run along a staircase can be fed from one circuit. The EPDM gland takes round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The luminaire is protection class I, so it must be connected to a protective earth conductor.

What light it gives

The opal glass diffuses the light, so no LED points are visible and the fitting does not dazzle someone walking up the steps. ULOR is 0% — nothing shines upwards, and all the light falls on the steps and the ground in front of the wall. The whole luminaire draws 5.3 W and emits 214 lm at 3000 K, a warm white; this is orientation light for steps and paths, not lighting for a whole yard. Norlys gives the light distribution for mounting 0.5 m above the ground.

It is phase-dimmable, but only with a trailing-edge (TE) dimmer. The LED module and control gear are replaced by a professional service — Norlys lists a service kit for it and rates the driver for 50,000 h.

Where it fits

Norlys designed it for stairs, steps, stairwells and walkways — including entrances to hotels and restaurants and on building facades. IP65 means full protection against dust and water jets, and IK08 means it withstands the kind of knocks that happen low down beside a path.
