Luces Exclusivas Acajete LE73581 garden bollard, concrete and glass, LED 6 W 450 lm 3000 K, 60 cm, IP65

Acajete is a garden bollard 60 cm tall with a 12 × 12 cm section, made of concrete. That material is rare in outdoor lighting and it changes the whole character of the product: the bollard is heavy, matt and rough to the touch, it does not reflect light the way lacquered metal does, and it needs no anti-corrosion coating because there is nothing there to rust.

Concrete that ages with the garden

The surface has a natural, uneven grey — the manufacturer describes the colour as "grey and shades of grey", because a concrete casting is never perfectly uniform in tone. Over time the material takes on a patina, just like the paving slabs or the retaining wall beside it. For many gardens that is an advantage: the light does not look added on, but like part of the same architecture.

The light

The built-in LED module draws 6 W and delivers 450 lumens in warm 3000 K, through a glass lens. That is the level for marking a path rather than lighting its full width: one bollard makes a legible pool of light around itself, and a rhythm of several at 2–3 metre intervals leads the eye along a walkway. Warm 3000 K does not jar against greenery and does not shift plant colours the way cool 6000 K does.

IP65 — for an open garden

The 6 means fully dust-tight, the 5 resistance to water jets from any direction. In practice that is the level intended for places with no shelter at all: rain, snow, sprinkler watering and hosing down the terrace are no problem. For a bollard standing in grass or in a bed that is not a theoretical figure — it is the condition for surviving the first season.

Weight and installation

Concrete means mass, and mass means stability: the bollard stands firm and will not be knocked over by a gust or by mowing right beside it. Power comes via a 230 V cable run underground; the garden installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician, at the proper burial depth and with residual-current protection.

Where it works

A path to the front door, the edge of a drive, a bed beside the terrace, a passage between parts of the garden. Raw concrete sits well with a modern house volume, concrete paving, corten and timber; it sits less well against classical façades with moulded detail, where a metal lantern is the natural choice.
