Lucide BANKER desk lamp, chrome with white opal glass shade, E14, 17504/01/11

BANKER 17504/01/11 is a desk lamp in the form of a classic banker's lamp, in a smaller version. A glossy chrome metal stand rises from a round base and carries a half-round shade of white opal glass that tilts vertically.

How big it is and where it fits

The lamp is 22 cm wide and 30 cm high, and the height is fixed. Compare those figures with the free space on your desk, bureau or bedside table — the manufacturer designed it as a lamp for a work surface. It suits an office or study, and works as a reading lamp in a living room or bedroom.

The on/off switch sits on the cable, so the lamp is switched without reaching for the socket or a wall switch.

What light it gives

The fitting has one E14 socket for a lamp of up to 40 W; the bulb is not included. The shade directs light down onto the desk, and the milky opal glass diffuses it so the source does not glare directly. Tilting the shade sets which part of the surface is lit.

The lamp is not designed for dimming — it has no dimmer, and the manufacturer does not provide for one with the light source either. Lucide recommends its own C35 filament LED bulb, E14, 3 W, 2200 K, in amber glass (49043/03/62): 2200 K is a very warm, orange-tinged light, closer to candlelight than to an ordinary bulb.

Construction

The stand and base are metal with an electroplated, glossy chrome-coloured finish. Chrome with the white shade is the colour version marked by the /11 suffix; the same model also comes in a bronze finish. The lamp is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor. The manufacturer classes the style as retro, which the banker's-lamp form itself conveys.
