LUUK is a floor lamp built from three open metal frames stacked one above the other on a slim post and a flat rectangular base. The whole thing is black, matt and spray painted, and each frame carries a bare E27 lampholder. The frames rotate around the post, so the arrangement of the squares is set by hand after unpacking.

How much room it takes

The lamp is 145 cm high, 34 cm wide and 26 cm deep, and the height is fixed: the maker does not make it adjustable. The base is a rectangular plate of 34 x 21 cm and 1 cm thick, which is the floor area the lamp occupies against a wall or beside an armchair.

It weighs 8.2 kg. That mass sits in the base plate and is what holds a 145 cm post upright, but it also means moving the lamp is a two-handed job rather than a nudge with a foot.

Bulbs and how to choose them

The lamp has three E27 lampholders and takes a maximum of 40 W in each. No bulbs are supplied, so three have to be bought separately before the lamp will light at all.

The frames are open and nothing screens the bulb, so its shape and the way it glows are visible from across the room: the lamp is part of the look rather than a hidden component. Lucide names its own G95 bulb, article 49032/05/62, as the appropriate source: an amber LED globe of 9.5 cm diameter, 4.9 W, 2200 K. An ordinary opal bulb works the same electrically, but inside an open frame it reads differently from a filament you can see through.

Power and switching

The lamp runs from a 230 V socket, and the switch sits on the cord rather than on the body, so it is turned on at floor level by hand or foot and needs no separate wall switch. The fitting is protection class II, so the socket does not have to carry an earth pin.

The maker states plainly that the fitting is not dimmable. A dimmable bulb will not change that on its own, because there is no dimmer anywhere in the circuit: with a cord switch the light has two states.

Finish and where it can stand

The post, the frames and the base are metal finished in matt black. IP20 covers dry indoor rooms, so the lamp suits a living room, a study or an office, but not a terrace or a bathroom. The fixture carries a two-year warranty and the fixings needed to assemble it are in the box.
