Five lamps and a 71 cm diameter — matching it to a room

This fitting is 710 mm across and 370 mm tall, with five E14 light points. Seventy centimetres is not a small-kitchen lamp: a chandelier this size needs space around it so as not to dominate the room, and works best over a round or oval table of similar diameter, or in the centre of a living room from about 20 m² upwards.

Spreading the light across five separate shades rather than one large diffuser gives the characteristic warm light with many soft shadows — the effect sought in classic interiors, and clearly different from the uniform light of a flush fitting.

Cream fabric on gold

The shades are made of cream-coloured fabric in a cylindrical form, 15 cm tall and 12 cm across. The fabric diffuses the light and warms it before any bulb is chosen; the gilded metal arms and body provide the contrast that is this collection's main device. Maytoni describes the fitting's finish in one word — gold — and cream here is the colour of the shades, not the structure.

Five E14 sockets up to 40 W — and what that really means

The 40 W per socket limit is set for classic bulbs and allows both LED lamps and traditional incandescent candles, whose appearance often matters in a classic fitting. Lamps are not included.

A practical note: five E14 LEDs of 5–7 W will give roughly 2500–3500 lm in total, entirely sufficient for a living room. With this many points, the colour choice matters more than the wattage — 2700 K brings out the gold and the cream fabric, while 4000 K makes the fitting look cold and strips its character. The fitting is not dimmable, so brightness control is only available through a wall dimmer working with the chosen lamps.

Things to bear in mind

Protection class I means the fitting requires an earth conductor — worth checking before installation in an older two-core installation. IP20 restricts use to dry rooms.

At 3.6 kg and 71 cm across, the fixing must reach a structural element of the ceiling; a ceiling rose with the cable alone is not enough. Also allow for a package 435 mm long and 0.047 m³ in volume.

The 5-year warranty is well above the usual two years for decorative lighting.
