This is not a light. The Nordlux Smart Plug (item number 2170210001) is a smart pass-through plug: it goes into the wall socket, and any appliance goes into the socket on its face – a floor lamp, a string of lights, a heater, a coffee machine. From that point on, that appliance can be switched from a phone, even though it has nothing smart about it itself.
Type E socket
This is the version with a Type E socket, the French standard. The characteristic earth pin protrudes from the front of the housing, and the plug side has two round pins plus a recess that accepts the wall socket's pin. Worth checking before ordering into a country with a different socket type — Nordlux makes other variants.
What works immediately, and what needs the bridge
The link is Bluetooth: the plug pairs directly with the phone in the Nordlux Smart Light app, with no router and no cloud account. Without any extra hardware you get remote on/off, a timer and power consumption tracking for whatever is plugged in.
The manufacturer separates a second group of features from these, labelled on the box as "EXTRA FEATURES WITH NORDLUX BRIDGE". They require the Nordlux Bridge, which is sold separately, and they are: control from anywhere (via the cloud), presence simulation, schedules and programs, sharing settings with other people in the household, and voice control. The "works with Hey Google" mark on the box refers to this group and carries a footnote about the bridge being required. If the point of the purchase is switching lights by voice or controlling them from work, the plug alone will not do it.
Manual operation
There is an illuminated button on the body, ringed by an LED. A short press switches the socket on and off, so the device still works when the phone is out of range or flat. Holding it for five seconds resets the plug to factory settings, which matters when moving it to a different phone or a different home.
Load and standby draw
The manufacturer rates it at a maximum load of 2300 W – roughly 10 A at 230 V, essentially the full capacity of a normal socket circuit. So it can switch not just lighting but appliances with a heavy draw. The plug itself uses about 0.5 W in standby. That is a figure worth noting if several are planned: ten of them running continuously come to roughly 44 kWh a year.
Safety and operating conditions
The device is class II (double insulated) and rated IP20 – it is for dry rooms only, not for a bathroom, an unheated garage or outdoors. Declared lifetime is 25,000 hours. The housing is white plastic; the whole thing weighs 0.11 kg and stands 82 mm out from the wall.
