Nordlux Theo 3-Rail Pendant Light, Black with Wooden Rail, 3 × GU10 max. 25 W

Theo 3-Rail is a pendant light with a horizontal rail of light wood, from which three black, bell-shaped metal shades hang. Black metal connectors divide the rail, and the whole fitting hangs on two cables below a flat black ceiling bar. It was designed by the Danish studio Says Who, and the wood is FSC certified.

Size and suspension

The rail with its shades is about 90 cm long, and each shade is 12.5 cm in diameter and 16 cm tall. Compare that length with your own table — the rail should be clearly shorter, so the light does not fall beyond the table top. The ceiling bar measures 50 × 3 cm, so it covers the junction box and is not a round canopy.

The cable is 200 cm long with a black textile covering. The height is set by storing the excess cable inside the ceiling bar rather than cutting it — the light can hang on as little as 60 cm of cable. The bottom edge of the shades is usually set 70–80 cm above the table top, so the light covers the table without shining into the eyes of those seated. The light weighs 1.82 kg.

Which bulbs it needs

Each shade has a GU10 lampholder, rated by the manufacturer for bulbs up to 25 W. No bulbs are included, so you need three — at that limit they are in practice GU10 LED bulbs, and you choose the colour and brightness yourself, most often 2700–3000 K over a table.

The light can be dimmed, but only with a dimmer and bulbs marked as dimmable. It is a Class II fitting, meaning double insulated, so it needs no earth conductor.

Where it fits

The manufacturer intends Theo for use above a dining table, and three shades in a line also work over a kitchen worktop. Black metal with light wood and simple, rounded shades make it Scandinavian in style, which looks right beside wooden tables and pale walls.
