NYC/RON 15/20 is a Rendl table lamp with a cylindrical shade in apricot chintz fabric, set on a slim chrome tube and a round chrome base. The shade is open at the top and the bottom, and its inside is finished white.
How much room it needs
The lamp is 40.5 cm tall and the shade is 15 cm across. That height is worth comparing with your own bedside table or chest of drawers: with the top at mattress height, the upper edge of the shade lands roughly at the shoulder of someone sitting up in bed.
The whole lamp weighs 426 g, so moving it to another piece of furniture is a one-handed job. The base is solid and round, and the cable leaves it sideways, just above the tabletop.
Which bulb you need and what light it gives
The holder takes one LED source with an E27 thread, up to 15 W, on a 230 V supply. No bulb is included, so brightness and colour are yours to choose — about 800 lm matches the old 60 W bulb and is enough to read by in bed, and 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light.
The shade fabric lets some light through sideways, so the cylinder itself glows. Being open top and bottom, the shade sends the stronger share of the light vertically: up to the ceiling and down onto the surface the lamp stands on.
Build and operation
The shade is sewn from chintz, a cotton fabric with a smooth, faintly satin face; frame, tube and base are metal with a chrome finish. Chrome reflects its surroundings, so the base visually recedes under the shade.
The cable is 150 cm long and runs to a switch set on the flex. The lamp is therefore switched on without reaching under the shade, which matters in the dark for a bedside light. That same cable length decides how far from a socket the furniture can stand.
