OLI METAL 70 is a round CustomForm coffee table built entirely from folded sheet metal. The 70 cm top rests on a base made of two interpenetrating flat panels forming a cross in plan – the structure has no legs in the conventional sense, so it looks different from every direction: at one moment a solid volume, at another two thin planes.
Proportions
A height of 45 cm is standard for a table beside a sofa – the top sits roughly level with the seat, so a mug is within reach without leaning forward. At 70 cm across the table is large enough for a tray, books and a laptop at once, yet does not wall the sofa off from the rest of the room. The closed sheet-metal base means no carpet shows through beneath the table – the volume reads as solid, unlike tables on slender legs.
Build
The whole piece is powder-coated metal in black RAL 9005 with a matt finish. The single material for top and base is the main strength of this construction: there are no joints between different materials to come unstuck or dry out over time. The surface wipes clean easily and resists staining, but – like any smooth black – it shows dust and fingerprints, which is worth knowing before buying.
Variants and production
OLI METAL 70 comes in three colours: white RAL 9003, black RAL 9005 (this item) and gold RAL 1111. The piece is made to order in Poland at the manufacturer's own works – it is not stock, so production takes up to 25 working days.
