KANE I is an outdoor wall light with a compact cuboid body cast from concrete in a dark granite shade — the surface is matt and finely speckled. It throws light in one direction, downwards: the underside carries a round aperture set in a metal ring fixed by four screws.
Size and where it goes
The body measures 11.9 cm high and 8.5 cm wide, and stands 10 cm out from the wall face. That last figure usually decides the purchase — compare it with the width of the door reveal, pilaster or fence post the light is meant to sit on, so the block does not overhang their edge.
The complete fitting weighs 1.44 kg. It runs straight off 230 V mains, with no separate driver to hide in the wall.
Which lamp to buy
The fitting takes one GU10 lamp, rated for LED sources up to 5 W. That is the ceiling for the lamp, not the consumption of the light itself. No lamp is supplied, so you choose the colour and the brightness yourself.
Rendl recommends a 3.7 W GU10 LED at 3000 K with a 36° beam — warm white light gathered into a narrow cone below the fitting. Dimming is possible, but it needs a dimmable lamp and a dimmer in the circuit at the same time; the light itself holds no control electronics.
Working outdoors
The housing is rated IP65: dust-tight and able to take a jet of water from any direction. The light can therefore sit on an unsheltered wall and survives rain as well as hosing the facade down.
The body is concrete and the light aperture is framed by a metal ring on four screws. The top face is solid, so light leaves the fitting only downwards.
Where the maker intends it
Rendl puts KANE I on facades, at entrances and walkways and near garages and driveways — anywhere the light should fall as a narrow band down the wall. In the maker's own catalogue it sits among single-direction outdoor wall lights.
Beyond a house facade the fitting suits a balcony or a fence, and the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The plain undecorated block and bare concrete are a form made for modern architecture.
