SONTE 50 is a pendant light 50 cm across, built from two independent parts: a black openwork frame of rods bent into a shallow cone, and a white glass shade that sits beneath it at its centre.

The cage does not diffuse the light — the glass does

That distinction decides how the fitting looks switched on. The light leaves through the white shade, downward, so the surface beneath is lit softly and without hard shadows. The rods of the frame are opaque, so they pass no light at all — instead they throw radial, striped shadows onto the ceiling, and that is the whole decorative effect. Worth keeping in mind: under a low, pale ceiling the pattern of the rods will be sharp, and the higher you hang the fitting the more it blurs.

This is not an all-black fitting

In its name and in catalogues the model is often described simply as "black", but the manufacturer lists two colours: black and white. Black is the frame, the canopy and the cord; white is the glass shade, which becomes the most conspicuous element of the whole fitting once the light is on. If you want uniform black, this is not the model.

Size and height

At 50 cm across this is an over-table fitting — the proportion works well above a surface 80–100 cm wide; over a larger table the 60 from the same series suits better. The quoted height of 130 cm is the maximum suspension length, not the height of the fitting itself: the manufacturer confirms the height is adjustable, so the drop is shortened at installation to whatever you need. Over a dining table one typically leaves 70–90 cm between the surface and the bottom edge of the shade.

GX53 socket, not E27

The fitting takes one GX53 light source — a flat module twisted into a bayonet, not a conventional screw-in bulb. The format is a deliberate choice: a GX53 module is shallow, so it fits inside the flat glass shade without protruding. No bulb is included, and the maximum source power is 10 W — with current GX53 LED modules that is usually 700–900 lumens, enough for a table zone. The manufacturer notes that the LED is not integrated, so the source can be replaced later.

Sonte comes in three sizes: 40 (a ceiling version), 50 (this pendant) and 60 (the largest pendant) — all with the same rod frame and the same GX53 socket, so they can be combined in one room. The fitting weighs about 3.4 kg and the manufacturer gives 24 months of warranty.
