RENDL PIXEL I is a surface-mounted spotlight in black aluminium: a round base plate, a short stem and a cylindrical head with a pale face behind which the light source sits. The head is carried on a joint, so the beam is aimed after the fitting is up.
How much room it needs and what it screws to
The base plate is 90 mm across and 25 mm deep, and the whole fitting stands 12.5 cm off the surface with the head pointing straight out. The head itself is a cylinder 84 mm across and 55 mm long — figures to compare with the gap left between your ceiling and a cupboard or shelf below it.
The manufacturer intends it for ceilings and walls alike, so the same fitting serves as a ceiling spot or as a directional wall light. It weighs 0.31 kg and the base plate screws straight to the surface. PIXEL is an indoor range; the same family also has a twin-head, a recessed and a track version.
Aiming the beam
The head tilts on its joint and turns through 350° on the base, so the beam can be swung around almost a full circle without unscrewing the fitting. That range matters where the light has to land on something specific — a picture, a bookcase, a worktop — and the direction is only settled once the room is furnished.
Which lamp to buy for it
The fitting takes a GX53 lamp and comes with none, so the lamp is bought separately. GX53 is a flat disc about 75 mm across that is pushed into the holder and twisted; despite the similar use it is not interchangeable with the common GU10.
The manufacturer rates this fitting at 7 W, the wattage of the single LED lamp meant to go in it. It runs on 230 V straight from the mains, with no driver in between — GX53 lamps work directly at mains voltage.
