The s.luce Orb Poseidon is a floor lamp with a mouth-blown globe of tinted brown glass, 30 cm across. The globe rests in a three-armed cradle at the top of a slim black frame that splays into a tripod at the bottom. The lamp stands 170 cm tall and belongs to the Orb series.
How big it is and where it stands
At 170 cm the globe sits well above the back of a sofa or armchair, roughly at the shoulder height of a standing adult. The base takes up a 30 by 30 cm square of floor — that is the figure to compare with the gap you have between a piece of furniture and the wall.
The lamp rests on the floor at three points, so it needs a level surface. The supply cable is 200 cm long and leaves the lamp right at the base; that is how far it can sit from a socket without an extension lead.
What light it gives
One E27 bulb of up to 40 W goes into the holder. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the light colour and the brightness yourself. The manufacturer allows bulbs up to 12.5 cm in diameter, which includes large decorative globes.
The brown glass is see-through — the bulb stays visible inside the globe and its shape becomes part of how the lamp looks. A dimmer sits on the cable, so brightness can be adjusted as long as the bulb fitted is described as dimmable.
Build and connection
The globe is mouth-blown, which means wall thickness and the spread of the tint vary slightly from piece to piece. Frame and tripod are metal in a black finish.
The lamp runs on 230 V and carries protection class I, so it needs an earthed socket. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.
Which rooms it is meant for
In the manufacturer's own catalogue the Orb Poseidon is listed for the living room, dining room, bedroom and study — anywhere the lamp stands beside a piece of furniture. The form is modern: reduced to a globe and three lines of frame, with no ornament and no shade covering the bulb.
