SAMPO outdoor wall light, anthracite grey, LED 9 W, 3000 K, IP65

SAMPO is an outdoor wall light shaped as a rectangular aluminium bar, finished in anthracite grey. It is 26.2 cm long and 5.4 cm high, and stands 5.8 cm out from the wall. A row of seven diodes sits behind a clear lens on the angled front face — the only place the fitting emits light.

Which way it throws light

The distribution is asymmetric and aimed downward: the light runs down the wall beneath the fitting and a little way in front of it, and nothing goes up. That decides where it belongs — above a door, over steps or along a path it lights the surface below itself, but it will not brighten the facade above.

Output is 650 lm at 3000 K, a warm white close to incandescent light. An old 60 W bulb gives about 800 lm, so SAMPO is a little dimmer — it is an orientation and accent fitting rather than a way to light a whole driveway. The diodes read as individual points, so at eye level they catch the eye; the higher it is mounted, the less that matters.

IP65, and where it may hang

An IP65 rating means fully dust-tight and protected against water jets, so the fitting may hang on an unsheltered wall with no eaves or canopy above it, and will take wind-driven rain as well as a hose aimed at the facade. That suits it to a facade, a boundary wall and a balcony.

Integrated LED, and what you do not buy separately

The light source is permanently built in: there is no lampholder and no thread, so no bulb is bought for it and nothing is swapped. The maker rates it at 20 000 hours, after which the whole fitting is replaced. It runs on 230 V mains and the driver is enclosed in the housing, so nothing is added on the supply side.

Build

The housing is aluminium, painted anthracite grey — a matt dark tone that reads as a clear stroke against pale render and all but disappears on a dark facade. The body is closed: the back and the top face are smooth, with no openings. The fitting weighs 690 g, so fixings chosen for the substrate are all it needs.
