A round recessed ring, 8.2 cm across

The DOLIX OUT is a plain recessed fitting shaped as an aluminium ring in silver grey. The outer diameter is 8.2 cm and the cut-out 6.8 cm — the standard size most ready-made openings in suspended ceilings and soffits are cut to. Installation depth is 11 cm, and that is usually what decides whether the fitting will go in: behind a roof soffit or in a coffered ceiling you need that much clear space.

IP65 — fully sealed, not merely splash-proof

The fitting carries an IP65 rating: completely dust-tight and resistant to water jets from any direction. That is a step above the IP44 typical of fittings sold for "outdoors under cover" — the DOLIX OUT will take hosing down or rain driven in at an angle, which suits it to a soffit with no overhang, to a carport, a garage, and to wet rooms. The seal comes from the glass window closing the fitting underneath.

GU10 socket on 230 V — no driver

The fitting has a GU10 socket fed directly from the mains at 220–240 V (50/60 Hz), so it needs neither a transformer nor an LED driver. That simplifies installation: an ordinary 230 V cable runs to the box. Maximum lamp rating is 50 W, which leaves a very wide margin with GU10 LED lamps (typically 4–7 W) — the limit only matters with older QPAR51 halogens.

Class II and IK02 impact rating

The fitting is class II — double-insulated, needing no earth conductor, which can matter when modernising older outdoor wiring. Mechanical strength is IK02, the usual figure for ceiling-mounted fittings where the risk of a knock is low.

The character of the light depends on the lamp

Like any GU10 fitting, the DOLIX OUT has no optic of its own — colour, output and beam angle are all decided by the lamp you fit. A narrow reflector (around 24°) draws a defined pool on a path or a step; a wide one (around 60°) lights a soffit evenly. A replaceable lamp has a practical advantage here over an integrated LED: years later you change the lamp rather than the whole fitting buried in the ceiling.
