A louvre instead of an opal diffuser

How this bollard deals with glare is a structural feature: a **louvre** works inside the housing — a set of baffles that cuts the direct view of the source and releases light at a controlled angle. On a path that means you do not look into a glowing point as you walk towards it, and yet the surface beneath is evenly lit. By comparison, a bollard with an opal diffuser glows over its whole surface and at 86 cm sits exactly at the eye level of someone seated.

The light goes two ways

SLV states **direct and indirect** emission for this model, with a **symmetrical** intensity distribution. In practice the flux leaves both downwards, onto a pavement or driveway, and upwards, brightening the bollard's surroundings; symmetry means an even spread all round rather than to one side. This is a solution for leading a path or outlining a terrace, where continuity of light matters more than a strong point. One bollard will not replace a floodlight.

Mechanical and weather resistance

IP54 is protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction — the right level for a garden and a driveway, though not for a pressurised jet. **IK05** means resistance to a 0.7-joule impact: not much, so the bollard should not be placed where a mower, a bicycle or a ball can reach it. The housing is aluminium, the diffuser polycarbonate, and the whole thing weighs just under 3 kg net. The construction works in protection class I and therefore needs an earth conductor.

Installation and light source

The **E27 socket is left open** — no bulb is included and the power limit is 20 W. SLV names its own **1005289** as a suitable source: a T38 E27 LED, 8 W, 3000 K, CRI 90, 240° beam. High CRI has a practical point here, because the light falls on planting and paving whose colours should look natural. The maker also provides for accessory **228730**, a three-pole IP68 connection box for joints in the ground. Supply is 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz; SLV notes that two lamps connect directly to the 230 V mains. The F-POL series also includes a wall light in the same formal language, which lets a façade and a path be lit consistently.
