Surface-mounted downlight Lucide TUBE gold square GU10 9.6 cm 22953/01/02

TUBE is a surface-mounted downlight shaped as a square sleeve 9.6 cm on a side and 12.5 cm tall. The housing is aluminium, powder coated in a matt brassy gold. A reflector sits in the lower opening and rotates and tilts through a full 360 degrees.

Footprint and fitting

It is not recessed: it screws to the ceiling and its 9.6 cm base covers an ordinary ceiling box, so no hole has to be cut. The fixing materials are included and the whole fitting weighs 0.55 kg.

The 12.5 cm height is fixed; the maker offers no adjustment. That is how far the fitting drops below the ceiling, which is worth comparing with the room height, especially in a hall with low joinery.

The lamp you have to buy

There is one GU10 socket for a 50 mm reflector lamp of up to 50 W. No lamp is supplied, so colour temperature, output and beam angle all come from the lamp you choose — the fitting itself does not change the colour of the light. Lucide recommends its own 49009/05/30, a 5 W dim-to-warm lamp that drops from 3000 K to 2200 K as it dims.

It dims, but that needs both a lamp marked dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit, which is not supplied. Without one the fitting works from an ordinary wall switch.

Where to put it

The movable reflector aims the beam at one thing — a picture, a worktop, a door — rather than lighting the room evenly. The maker suggests a small hall or a cloakroom, and a row of them over a kitchen or bar counter.

IP20 places it in dry interiors. It is a class I fitting, so an earth conductor has to reach the box — a condition of installation rather than an option.
