The Zen Bowl is a round teak bowl measuring 25 cm across and 15 cm high. The wall is smooth, without ornament and without visible joints, and the inside has been left in bare wood. The maker records the colour as Natural, meaning a finish with no stain and no lacquer, in a warm brown tone.
How big the bowl is and where it sits
The maker's spec sheet gives 25 x 15 x 25 cm, and the photographs settle that the footprint is a circle rather than a square: the bowl is 25 cm in diameter, roughly the span of a large dinner plate. On a worktop it occupies a circle that size and will not slide into a narrow gap between appliances.
At 15 cm high the form is deep rather than flat like a cake stand, so fruit or bread piles up inside instead of sliding over the edge. That same depth blocks the view across a table, which is why the bowl reads better set to one side of a dining table than in the middle. The maker publishes no volume: the Capacity row on the spec sheet is empty.
The wood and the finish
The spec sheet names one material: teak wood. No glue lines or veneer are visible on the wall, and on the base the growth rings converge on a single point, so the grain on any given bowl looks different from the catalogue photograph. The rim is thin and rounded and the underside is flattened, which lets the bowl stand steadily on a smooth surface.
The inside is finished like the outside, with no coating and no separate liner. The maker gives Indonesia as the country of origin.
Looking after the wood
The maker asks for the bowl to be wiped dry after each use and washed gently with mild soap and a lightly damp cloth, without soaking it and without leaving water standing on the wood. Treating it regularly with a food-safe oil maintains the colour and reduces the risk of the wood warping.
The oil is not supplied and is bought separately. Apart from the bowl itself the maker includes nothing else.
