CARA A4001-BK is a tripod floor lamp: three slender metal legs in a gold finish and a black fabric drum shade. The shade is light-coloured inside, so light bounces off it downwards instead of disappearing into the dark fabric. The lamp stands 159 cm tall.
How much room it takes and how it arrives
At 159 cm the shade sits above the head of a seated person, which is the usual placing for a lamp beside an armchair or at the corner of a sofa. The leg span and the shade diameter are both 45 cm, so on the floor the lamp occupies a square of that side.
The manufacturer gives the packaging as 47 × 47 × 33 cm. A lamp 1.59 m tall does not fit in a 33 cm box, so it arrives disassembled and the legs are bolted together on site.
The light it gives
The lampholder has an E27 thread and takes one lamp of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour temperature and brightness yourself — beside an armchair most people pick 2700–3000 K, that is warm, slightly yellow light.
The drum shade is open at the top and at the bottom, so part of the flux goes to the ceiling and part falls straight onto the floor and whatever stands under the lamp. The fabric screens the lamp at the sides, so from the chair next to it you do not see the bulb itself.
Where it belongs
The manufacturer intends it for the living room, the bedroom, the dining room and for a study or an office — anywhere extra light is wanted beside a piece of furniture rather than lighting for the whole room. It runs from a 230 V socket.
The shape is modern: three straight thin rods with no ornament at all and a plain cylinder of a shade. The gold of the legs against the black of the fabric gives a contrast that reads with the lamp switched off as well.
