Aldex Fin 3 M White Pendant Lamp, 3 Glass Globes 20 cm, 1120E_M

Fin 3 M is a pendant lamp with three globe shades in opal white glass, each 20 cm across. The globes sit on short arms on either side of a vertical metal stem, each at a different height, which gives the fitting a slightly asymmetric outline. The metal is powder-coated in matt white, and the cable and the round ceiling rose are the same colour.

How big it is and how to hang it

The fitting is 46 cm wide and 46 cm deep, and with the cable at full length it measures 120 cm from the ceiling to the lower end of the stem. Of that, 51 cm is the rigid section carrying the globes and about 69 cm is cable, which the manufacturer allows to be shortened — in practice an electrician does this during installation. So the lamp cannot hang shorter than about 51 cm below the ceiling — allow for that in a low room.

Over a table the drop is usually set so that the lowest globe ends up 70–80 cm above the tabletop. Compare the 46 cm span with the width of your own table. The ceiling rose is 10 cm in diameter and covers a standard junction box.

What light Fin 3 gives

The lamp has three E27 lampholders for LED bulbs, one in each globe. The opal glass encloses the bulb on all sides and diffuses the light, so each globe glows evenly across its whole surface with no bright spot in the middle. Colour and brightness depend on the bulbs you fit — for dining and living rooms 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellowish light, is the usual choice.

The shades are made in a Polish glassworks. Because the globes sit at different heights, the light spreads both downwards onto the table and sideways towards the walls.

Which interiors it suits

The manufacturer calls Fin a minimalist lamp and designs it for modern interiors: a plain stem, smooth globes and a single white finish with no ornament. It works over a dining table, in a living room and in a kitchen, where three light sources gathered in one fitting light a specific zone of the room.

The FIN series also includes smaller S versions with 14 cm globes, black and brass finishes, the six-light Fin 6 and the Fin 3 Ceiling version, which mounts directly against the ceiling.
