BARREL-1 is a single-light pendant with a cylindrical shade of milky acrylic, closed at the top by an oak cap. The shade hangs from a black braided cord, and the fitting is fixed to the ceiling with a round oak canopy. The wood keeps its natural oak tone and is finished with oil that brings out the grain.
How big it is and how high to hang it
The shade is 8 cm across and 21.5 cm tall, so the pendant stays slim and does not block the view across a table. The ceiling canopy measures 10 cm in diameter and 3.8 cm in height.
The braided cord is over a metre long and is shortened during installation to set the hanging height. Above a table the bottom edge of the shade usually ends up 70–80 cm above the top.
The light BARREL-1 gives
The fitting takes one lamp with a GU10 base, so colour and brightness are chosen together with the bulb — over a dining table that usually means warm light of 2700–3000 K.
The milky acrylic is not clear: the wall of the cylinder glows softly and spreads part of the light sideways, while most of the beam leaves through the open bottom and falls straight onto the surface below.
Where it fits
The manufacturer intends it for use over the table and in the living room, dining room and bedroom. Because the shade is narrow, several pendants can hang side by side over a longer table or a kitchen island, each at a different height.
The form is plain: a smooth cylinder with no ornament and a thin, visible cord. Light oak combined with milky acrylic suits interiors with wooden furniture and pale walls.
Materials and build
The shade cap and the ceiling canopy are made of solid oak protected with oil. The shade itself is acrylic, that is plexiglass — lighter and less prone to breaking than glass.
BARREL-1 is the smallest model in the BARREL family; the same series also includes versions with two, three and four light points.
