Brecken is a two-light pendant by Quoizel, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A wide shade of cased opal glass hangs from a steel frame in an aged brass finish, which grips the top of the shade with two angular arms. The shade is 37 cm in diameter and the fitting itself is 40.4 cm tall.
How high to hang it
The pendant hangs on rigid rods rather than a cable. Four are supplied — two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm — and the combination you choose sets the overall drop anywhere from 52.4 to 143.9 cm. Over a table it is usually hung so the lower edge of the shade sits 70–80 cm above the top; a 37 cm shade keeps its proportions over a table about 80 cm wide.
The ceiling pan is 12.7 cm across and 1.9 cm deep. The fitting weighs 4.25 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to the protective earth. It is designed for indoor use.
Which bulbs and what kind of light
Inside are two E27 lampholders for bulbs of up to 60 W each. No bulbs are included, so you need to buy two. Opal glass is milky, so it diffuses the light and hides the bulbs: from below you do not see the source, and the light does not glare into the eyes of people sitting at the table.
The fitting is not dimmable, so it should not be wired to a dimmer, even with bulbs labelled as dimmable.
Where it fits
The manufacturer describes Brecken as a streamlined, contemporary pendant and intends it for use over a kitchen island, a bar area or a dining table. The white shade and the warm tone of the brass work well with several pendants hung in a row over a longer counter. The Brecken range also offers the same pendant in an old bronze finish.
