ALICE M is a two-light ceiling lamp: two cylindrical fabric shades carried on a rigid, arched arm of lacquered steel. The shades are black outside and gold inside, and the whole fitting measures 95 cm across and 66 cm tall.
How much room it takes under the ceiling
The 95 cm span is the figure to compare with the length of the worktop or table it will hang over β the two 37 cm shades spread the light across that whole width instead of gathering it in one spot.
The lamp hangs from a rigid tube rather than a cord or a chain, so its 66 cm height is fixed and cannot be shortened during installation. The ceiling plate is rectangular, 25 Γ 11 cm and 2.5 cm deep: it covers a standard wiring box, but it has to be lined up along the arm of the lamp.
Which bulbs you need to buy
ALICE M takes two E27 bulbs and none are supplied β two are needed to light it. The manufacturer caps them at 25 W per socket and permits LED sources only; a fabric shade does not shed heat the way a metal one does.
You choose the colour of the light along with the bulb. The shades are open at the bottom and lined with gold fabric, so the light falls straight onto the surface below, and whatever reflects off the lining comes back warmer in tone.
Mounting and build
The lamp is fixed to a mounting bracket screwed to the ceiling. It is Class I, so it needs an earth conductor at the supply point β in an older installation without earthing that is worth checking before buying. The fitting weighs 3.59 kg.
The build is black lacquered steel with fabric shades, and the manufacturer intends the ALICE series for indoor use only. The series also includes smaller and larger versions with the same black-and-gold shade.
