MILPA LE43277 is a ceiling light shaped as a 60 cm ring that sits just 7.8 cm proud of the ceiling. The centre of the ring is open - you see the ceiling through it - and the light comes out of an acrylic band running round the inner edge of the hoop. From outside the fitting reads as uniformly black and matte; only when switched on does a thin bright circle appear, inscribed inside the dark ring.
How a ring with an open centre lights
Putting the diffuser on the inner edge has real consequences. The output goes inwards and downwards rather than sideways, so the black hoop stays dark and does not draw the eye - from floor level you see a glowing circle, not a glowing disc. Aiming inwards also means light from opposite sides of the ring overlaps beneath the fitting and softens shadows instead of throwing one hard cone. The open centre has one more practical effect: the fitting collects no dust in a diffuser bowl, because there isn't one.
How much light
The integrated LED module draws 40 W and delivers 2152 lm, about 54 lm/W. At 3000 K the light is warm - the usual choice for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms, where mood matters more than maximum legibility. For a room of 15-18 m², 2152 lm is enough as the main light; in a larger space the 80 or 100 cm diameter from the same family is the better pick. The fitting can be dimmed, but that needs an external dimmer in the wiring - none is supplied.
Materials and installation
The hoop is aluminium finished in matte black, the diffuser is acrylic. The aluminium does two jobs here: it stiffens a thin sixty-centimetre ring and carries heat away from the LED module. The fitting weighs about a kilogram, so it makes no special demands on the ceiling. It mounts directly to the ceiling; the fixed 230 V connection is a job for a qualified electrician. The light source is integrated and not replaceable - no lamps to buy, but none to change either.
Where it works
The IP20 rating restricts MILPA to dry interiors. A flat 7.8 cm body takes no headroom, so the ring suits rooms with a low ceiling where a pendant would be in the way. Matte black reads clearly against a pale ceiling and works as a graphic accent - in interiors with dark joinery or black window frames it closes the composition.

The family splits into two mountings: the ceiling version at 7.8 cm deep, as offered here, and a pendant version on a two-metre suspension.
