FRONTERA LE46046 is a compact surface-mounted luminaire from Luces Exclusivas built from two half-spheres. The matt black half is the part fixed to the surface; the second one, in a satin champagne-gold finish, houses the built-in LED module and sits against it at an angle. The whole fitting measures 10 cm across and 8.1 cm high, so on a ceiling it reads as a small sculptural detail rather than a conventional ceiling light.

Directional light, not diffuse

The open half-sphere throws its output one way, so FRONTERA does not light a room evenly — it lays a warm pool of light on a wall, above a bed or along a corridor. The inside of the shade is black, which kills reflections: seen from the side you read the shape of the fitting rather than the point of the LED. In the manufacturer's own photographs the luminaire is shown on a ceiling and on a wall, aimed differently each time.

Colour of light and dimming

3000 K is a warm white close to the light of a classic incandescent lamp, and it suits the gold body, which a cooler tone would flatten to grey. 826 lm from 11 W works out at about 75 lm/W: a normal figure for a small decorative fitting with a deep black shade, where part of the flux is deliberately traded away to keep glare down.

The luminaire can be dimmed, but only with a leading-edge TRIAC dimmer. 0-10 V and DALI controllers will not work with it, and with a dimmer designed for incandescent lamps it is worth checking the minimum load — 11 W is not much.

Where it works

IP20 keeps FRONTERA to dry interiors. The manufacturer places it first of all in the bedroom and in relaxation areas, where a soft directional pool of light replaces general ceiling lighting. It works just as well in a hallway or a living room: a pair or a row of these fittings walks the light along a wall, and with a low ceiling the 8.1 cm build height stays out of the way.

Installation

The fitting is surface-mounted straight onto a ceiling or a wall and runs on 230 V mains — leave the connection to a qualified electrician. The aluminium body carries heat away from the LED module, and because the source is integrated there is no bulb to replace.
