The RIO 78 is a chandelier built from a single ring 78 cm across, made from a black aluminium profile 40 mm tall. It is not the whole circumference that lights up but a 24 mm diffuser strip running along the inner, lower edge of the ring, so the light goes downwards and into the circle. The ring hangs on thin, transparent wires beneath a round black canopy.

How high it hangs and how much room it takes

The suspension is adjustable, with a maximum height of 150 cm from the ceiling; it is shortened to the length you need during installation. The ring itself is 78 cm across — the figure to compare with the width of the table it will hang over, since a ring this size draws a clear circle on ceiling and wall.

The canopy is round, 24 cm across and 2,5 cm deep, and the supply cable is transparent. The whole fitting weighs 5,05 kg — that is what the ceiling fixing has to carry.

How much light it gives, and what kind

The built-in LED module draws 33 W and delivers 3865 lm, roughly as much as five former 60 W incandescent bulbs. Enough for a room's main lighting, not just an accent. 4000 K is neutral white — without the yellow warmth of 3000 K and without a blue chill.

The strongest figure on the card, though, is colour rendering: Thoro states CRI 98 against the 80 that is typical on the market. At that level the colours of fabric, wood, food and pictures look practically as they do in daylight, which counts over a table and anywhere colours are judged. The light source is built in permanently: there is no lampholder and no bulb to buy, and none to change either.

Supply and installation

The chandelier runs on 230 V at 50 Hz and carries protection class I, so an earth conductor has to be connected — the installation belongs to an electrician, and in an older circuit without earthing this is worth checking before buying. IP20 protection means dry interiors only.

The fitting is made in Poland and comes with a five-year warranty. The RIO 78 is the middle of three sizes in the collection: alongside it are rings of 55 cm (24 W, 2778 lm) and 110 cm (47 W, 5435 lm), so compare diameter and light output together.
