FLANDES is a pendant lamp with a single spherical glass shade 30 cm across. The glass is colourless but not smooth: it has a fine granular, crystalline texture that scatters the light passing through it. The globe hangs on a thin cable from a round chrome ceiling rose.
Size and hanging height
A 30 cm shade is smaller than the usual over-table globe - above a top 80-90 cm wide a single sphere marks a point rather than the whole surface, so over a longer table two or three of them are normally hung in a row.
Total suspension height is 120 cm. Above a dining table the bottom edge of the shade usually ends up 70-80 cm above the top, and above a bar counter at 100-110 cm correspondingly higher - those 120 cm are the allowance you shorten at installation. The ceiling rose is round and covers a standard junction box.
Which bulb you have to buy
The fitting has one E27 lampholder and no bulb is supplied, so one has to be bought separately. The maker gives a maximum source power of 12 W; that ceiling is LED territory, which means no high-wattage incandescent bulb will go in this holder.
Colour and brightness come with the bulb you choose: over a dining table 2700-3000 K is the usual pick, a warm light with a slightly yellow cast. The granular texture of the glass spreads the light across the whole sphere, so the shape of the bulb itself does not show through and there is no need to buy a decorative globe lamp.
Materials
The shade is glass, while the ceiling rose, the cable and the globe fixing are metal with a chrome finish. The sphere is held by two visible screws at its top pole, and the supply lead runs alongside the suspension cable.
