FRAME 1 is a ceiling light built from an open rectangular frame of black lacquered steel that sits flat against the ceiling. Inside the frame, set off centre, is one round shade 8 cm across and 4 cm deep, facing down. The frame itself stays empty — it draws an outline on the ceiling rather than covering it.

How much ceiling it takes

The frame measures 33,5 x 23,5 cm and drops 7,7 cm below the ceiling. That is under ten centimetres, so the fixture does not lower the room and fits where a pendant would be in the way: a hall, a corridor, above the entrance to a room.

It weighs 0,8 kg and mounts on a bracket screwed to the ceiling, with no height adjustment. The measurements are worth comparing with the position of the ceiling outlet — a rectangular frame has a clear direction and reads differently along a narrow corridor than across it.

Which bulb it takes

There is one GX53 socket, for which the manufacturer gives a limit of 12 W with an LED lamp. No bulb is supplied, so colour and brightness are yours to choose — for a hallway 3000 K, a warm light, is the usual pick.

GX53 is a flat disc-shaped lamp locked in by a twist, which is exactly why the shade is only 4 cm deep. One light point with a 12 W limit lights a small room or adds to a larger one; the light falls in a narrow cone downwards and the frame itself stays unlit.

Build and where it may go

Frame, canopy and shade are black lacquered steel, matt, with no glass parts and no ornament. The form is minimalist: an empty rectangle and one cylinder, two figures and nothing else, so the fixture reads as a graphic on a white ceiling.

The IP20 rating is for dry interiors only, so the fixture does not belong in a bathroom by the shower or outdoors.
