Garden Lantern NORLYS Karlstad 2031 Hot-Dip Galvanised, Luminaire Without Pole

Karlstad 2031 is the luminaire of a garden lantern in hot-dip galvanised steel: a shallow conical shade on a curved arm, with an exposed lamp beneath it. Norlys sells it as the luminaire alone — the pole is a separate article.

What you get and what has to be ordered separately

The box holds the luminaire only. The manufacturer lists the pole under its own number (art. 3009 for the galvanised version), and the mounting bases for concrete and for soil are further line items. A complete lantern therefore means at least two and usually three orders — worth adding up before comparing the price with a ready-made set.

A bulb is not included either. The luminaire is fixed according to the instructions supplied with it; the luminaire itself measures 49 x 32 x 30 cm.

Bulb and wiring

The fitting has one E27 socket and takes an LED lamp of up to 9 W. Because the lamp hangs exposed beneath the shade, how it looks is part of how the lantern looks — with a clear glass envelope the filament or the diodes are visible. Light goes downwards and sideways while the shade blocks it from above, so the fitting does not shine into upstairs windows.

The terminals take conductors up to 2 x 2.5 mm², and the fitting can be looped through with 2 x 1.5 mm² — several lanterns along a drive then hang off one run rather than needing a junction box at each. Round-sheathed cable may be up to 12 mm across. It runs on 230 V and is Safety Class II, so no earth conductor is required.

Build and life outdoors

The body is steel, hot-dip galvanised — the zinc layer applied in the bath covers edges and the inside of the section as well, and over time it dulls from bright shine to an even grey. This is a raw, unpainted finish, so the colour of the fitting is the colour of the metal.

IP55 protection covers dust and water jets, which means mounting in the open with nothing above it. The manufacturer gives a rated ambient temperature of +25°C. The cable entry is sealed with EPDM.
