HUE R 9 is a round recessed downlight with a built-in LED module and a white trim 9 cm in diameter. Once installed, only the 0.9 cm high trim shows below the ceiling, and the light comes through a flat white surface that fills its whole centre.
Installation and dimensions
The fitting goes into a 7 cm cut-out and needs 6 cm of free space above the ceiling – a figure to compare with the depth of your ceiling void, for example the gap between a plasterboard panel and the slab. Two springs, visible in the installation photo, hold it in the hole.
The driver is included: a small separate box connected to the fitting by a cable and fed from the 230 V mains, so nothing has to be added on the supply side. The fitting itself weighs 130 g.
What light it gives
The 6 W LED module delivers 540 lm, roughly two thirds of an old 60 W bulb (about 800 lm). Lighting a whole room therefore takes several fittings spread across the ceiling. The 3000 K colour temperature is warm white, and a colour rendering index of Ra 80 is standard for living spaces – where colours have to match exactly, Ra 90 or higher is the better choice.
The LED module is built in permanently, so there are no bulbs to buy, and the manufacturer states its lifetime as 50,000 hours. This version is not listed as dimmable: the manufacturer gives dimming as an option on request and offers a separate HUE R 9 DIMM version.
Where it fits
The flat round trim with no ornament is a modern form that almost disappears in a white ceiling. The downlight suits living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens as well as hotels and restaurants – places where several such points in the ceiling provide the base lighting. The manufacturer also offers the same fitting with a black chrome or matt nickel trim.
