KENAI C is a pendant whose shade is built from closely spaced steel rods forming a barrel-shaped drum 38 cm across. The whole thing is finished in terracotta — a warm, brick-toned lacquer, reference P028 from the Nowodvorski range. The bottom of the drum closes with a broad open ring through which the light leaves.

A shade that patterns rather than diffuses

The openwork construction does not behave like a fabric shade. Light passes between the rods, so the fitting does not soften it — it divides it, and a regular striped drawing appears on the ceiling and walls while the main beam drops through the lower ring. This is a lamp for interiors where the effect is the point, not an even milky wash. Bear that in mind when choosing the lamp: the more point-like and bright the source, the sharper the shadow of the rods.

GX53 — not an ordinary bulb

KENAI C takes a single GX53 source. That is a flat disc module, pushed in and twisted into the socket rather than screwed onto a thread — it is what allowed the fitting to be so shallow. When buying a lamp, look for GX53, not E27 or GU10. The manufacturer allows a maximum of 15 W and LED sources only; the module is not supplied with the fitting, and can be replaced by the user when it reaches end of life.

Height and mounting

The lamp hangs a maximum of 170 cm below the ceiling, on a 7.5 × 5.5 cm canopy, with the shade itself 17 cm high. Shortening the suspension is possible, but Nowodvorski specifies it should be done by a qualified electrician — this is not a hook-and-loop adjustment you shorten by hand. Mounting is on a bracket, and the fixing kit is not included; plugs and screws are chosen to suit your ceiling.

Where it works

At 38 cm across this is the size for a single lamp over a coffee table or in a seating corner, or for a row — two or three over a kitchen island or a long table. Terracotta sits well with timber, lime plaster and greenery; against white and chrome it will read as a deliberate colour accent. KENAI is also made in A and B versions with different shade proportions.
