A floodlight, not a projector

VT-44104 is an LED floodlight — a flat aluminium fitting on a tilting bracket, made to light large areas from one point: façades, driveways, yards, halls or workshops. It has nothing to do with an image projector; several of this catalogue's language versions previously used a word that says exactly that.

The fitting measures 25.4 × 24.3 × 4 cm and weighs 1.23 kg. The flat profile has a practical benefit — on a façade it casts no deep shadow of its own and offers less to the wind than a deep housing. The finish is white, which lets the fitting disappear against pale render in daylight.

8700 lumens from 100 W

EPREL registration 1859962 declares 8700 lm at 100 W for this model — 87 lm/W — at 4000 K. The beam angle is 115°, which is very wide: from 4 m up, a floodlight like this covers a pool some fifteen metres across, but the illuminance at the centre is correspondingly lower than from a narrow-beam fitting. For lighting a whole driveway that is an advantage; for picking out a single tree or a section of wall it is not.

Declared colour rendering is Ra 70 with a red component of R9 = 0. Those are typical figures for technical lighting and entirely adequate where visibility and safety are the point. It is not, however, a fitting for lighting goods, an ornamental garden or a brick façade where colour fidelity matters — reds go noticeably flat under this light.

IP65 and installation

IP65 means fully dust-tight and protected against water jets, so the fitting can work on an exposed façade with no shelter. 1 m of connection cable is supplied — not much, so the plan has to place a junction box within that reach. The tilting bracket allows the angle to be set after fixing.

What the fitting cannot do

The manufacturer declares in the register that the model is not dimmable — it runs at full power or is off. Measured flicker is Pst LM = 1 and the stroboscopic effect SVM = 1; both are perceptible when watching moving objects, so in a workshop with rotating machinery this deserves consideration when choosing task lighting. The power factor of 0.9 is good, on the other hand, and produces no surprises with several fittings on one circuit. The product carries a five-year warranty.
