The LIMEA SMD3528 is a 60 cm waterproof batten: a grey plastic body closed by a milky diffuser over its whole length, with a cable gland at the end. The 18 W LED module is built in permanently together with its driver, so the fitting works as soon as it is wired to 230 V.

IP65 and electrical class II

IP65 means full dust-tightness and resistance to a water jet from any direction — the fitting takes dust and damp in a garage or an unheated room and can be washed down rather than dismantled to clean the inside of the diffuser. Class II means double insulation: no earth conductor is needed to connect it, which matters in an older installation that simply has none. The maker rates it from -20 to +40 degrees Celsius, for indoor and outdoor mounting alike.

The light it gives

The module puts out 1450 lm at a neutral 4000 K while drawing 18 W, an efficacy of 80 lm/W. The 120 degree spread lays the light broadly across the surface below rather than gathering it into one pool, which is why battens like this go over a work position or along a circulation route. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is enough for workshop work, but colours read less faithfully than under Ra 90 sources. Neither the colour nor the output can be changed — the fitting does not work with a dimmer.

Mounting and service life

The body is 60 cm long with an 85 x 73 mm section; it is surface-mounted to a ceiling or wall, or suspended. The maker declares 50,000 hours of operation and 25,000 switching cycles, so it tolerates frequent switching from a wall switch or a motion sensor on a separate circuit. The warranty runs five years.
