Lucide FIRMIN Retro Gold Glass Table Lamp 45597/20/02

The Lucide FIRMIN is a table lamp built from an opal glass cylinder and a wide matt gold band that wraps around it at half height. The glass shows above and below the band, and the lamp stands on a low round base. The lamp is 23.5 cm tall.

How big it is and where it fits

The metal band measures 20 cm across and sets the outline of the lamp; the glass cylinder inside is narrower, at 15 cm. The base rests on the surface in a circle 12 cm wide, so on a bedside table or a chest of drawers the lamp takes up less room than its widest point suggests.

The height is fixed: the manufacturer gives 23.5 cm as both minimum and maximum. At 1.8 kg the weight sits low, just above the surface it stands on.

What bulb it needs and how it lights

Inside the cylinder is a single E27 socket for a lamp of up to 40 W on 230 V. No bulb is supplied, so you choose colour and brightness yourself. For this model Lucide recommends its own LED filament lamp, article 49042/05/62 — E27, 4.9 W, 2200 K, a light warmer and more amber than ordinary warm white.

The opal glass is milky rather than clear, and the cylinder is open at the top: light leaves upwards and spreads all around through the glass above and below the band. The manufacturer describes the distribution as all-round and diffuse, so the lamp does not light a chosen spot but casts a soft glow around itself. It is not dimmable. A switch sits on the cable and the cable ends in a plug, so it is switched at the lamp itself, with no need for a socket on a wall switch.

Build and the rooms it suits

The shade is glass and the base aluminium, with a matt, lightly antiqued finish on the metal parts. The manufacturer calls FIRMIN a retro design, and it shows in the plain pairing of two shapes: a smooth cylinder and a sheet of metal clasping it without ornament.

The manufacturer names a chest of drawers, a bedside table and a desk as places for this lamp — in a living room, a bedroom or a study it works as additional light rather than main lighting. The fixture carries a two-year guarantee. FIRMIN belongs to a series that also includes pendant lights of the same construction.
