Lucide Preston Black GU10 Bathroom Pendant Light 10 cm IP44 09437/01/30

Preston is a small Lucide pendant light with an aluminium shade shaped like half a drop, 8 cm across. The body and the square ceiling plate are matt black powder coating, and the fitting hangs on a black cable. The shade is opaque and sends all of the light straight down.

How big it is and how low it hangs

The ceiling plate measures 10 × 10 cm and is 2.5 cm deep, so it covers a standard installation box. The fitting itself is 10 cm at its widest — this is a lamp for one specific spot, or for a row of several, rather than a single-piece answer to lighting a whole room.

Drop height is set before installation, anywhere between 50 and 146.7 cm. Over a bathroom mirror the drop is usually shortened so the shade stays clear of your reflected face; if you hang a pair either side of the mirror, set both to the same length.

The light, and what you need to buy separately

The fitting takes one GU10 (MR16) lamp of up to 50 W and runs on 230 V. No bulb is included, so colour and brightness are your choice — Lucide recommends its own 5 W GU10 LED at 3000 K, a warm white close to a traditional incandescent bulb.

Light falls in a narrow pool directly below the fitting. Preston can be dimmed, but that needs an external dimmer and a bulb marked as dimmable; the dimmer is not supplied.

Bathroom use, other rooms and build

An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water, so the pendant may hang in a bathroom outside the direct shower zone. The manufacturer intends it above a basin and mirror first of all, but the same shape works over a kitchen worktop or island, above a dining table, in a bedroom, and in hotel and restaurant interiors.

The fitting is protection class I, so the circuit it connects to has to carry an earth conductor. The powder-coated aluminium body is a smooth shape with no ornament. The Preston series also includes a white version.
