LUMA 2410-18 by Paul Neuhaus is a pendant lamp with a round glass shade 30 cm across, hung from a thick, light-coloured rope that glows by itself – it is lit by LEDs. The glass shades from smoky black at the top to clear at the lower edge, and the ceiling canopy is black.
Size and suspension
The lamp is at most 150 cm high. The drop is changed by tying a knot in the rope – on the manufacturer's drawing the same lamp with one knot measures 100 cm. Before buying, measure how far below the ceiling you want the shade to hang and compare it with these two values.
The fitting weighs 1.37 kg. It is protection class II, so no earth conductor is needed to connect it.
Two light sources
The lamp has two independent light sources. The rope is lit by a built-in LED module at 3000 K, which is warm white; the module cannot be replaced. The manufacturer quotes 1900 lm for the LED board alone, but 640 lm actually leaves the fitting at 15 W – less than an old 60 W bulb (about 800 lm), so the glowing rope gives mainly decorative light.
Inside the shade is an E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. That bulb is not included, so you choose the brightness and colour of the light under the shade yourself; the smoked glass holds back part of the light, which is worth allowing for when picking the bulb. Both sources can be switched on separately or together with the switch – the manufacturer provides three settings.
Where it fits
The manufacturer intends LUMA for the living room. The form is modern: a smooth sphere of graded glass, a plain black canopy and the knotted rope as the only decorative element.
