NIRA is a floor lamp 145 cm tall, built around a slim gold column on a round base 25 cm across. At the top, three clear glass cylinders splay outwards, set on a circle 30 cm in diameter.
Proportion and stability
At 145 cm the lamp reaches roughly the shoulder height of someone standing, and its head clears the back of a sofa — the scale for standing beside a seat rather than behind it. The 25 cm foot is noticeably narrower than the circle of shades, so the lamp takes little floor space.
The body weighs 8.7 kg, which with a column this thin means a weighted base — that is what holds it upright. The column comes in three 34 cm sections that screw together during assembly, so the lamp packs into a flat carton and does not have to be carried in one piece.
Three clear shades
The shades are 28 cm tall and made of colourless rather than frosted glass — the lamps are visible right through them. That decides the choice of bulb: a frosted envelope gives three quiet points, while a clear one with a visible filament breaks the light into hard reflections in the glass walls.
Each of the three shades takes an E14 lamp of up to 40 W. No bulbs are supplied, so the colour is yours to choose; against gold metal, 2700 K keeps the warm tone of the finish.
Build
Column, base and shade holders are metal in a single gold finish; the shades are glass. The glass is transparent over its full height, so the lamp stays visually light even unlit — the wall behind shows through it.
